Terry D Johnson, 73, of Excelsior Springs, passed away Tuesday, December 10, 2019, at home in Excelsior Springs.
Visitation will be Monday, December 16, 2019, from 6-8:00pm at Pisgah Baptist Church. The Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, December 17, 2019, at Pisgah Baptist Church.
Terry was born February 26, 1946, in Excelsior Springs, MO, the second of nine children born to the late Lee Roy and the late Vivian Loretta (Mansell) Johnson. He married Penny Terry on December 6, 2015 in Lawson, Missouri.
Terry worked at Ford for nearly 50 years ending his career there as an inspector – He often told the story that he got the job by putting weights in his pockets to reach the required 150 lbs.
He was always willing to help anyone in need and had an uncanny knack for diagnosing and finding a way to fix any mechanical problems. He was one of the founders of the Excelsior Springs youth wrestling program. Terry loved babies and young kids. His nieces and nephews remember him trying to feed his grandchildren ice cream and candy when their parents weren’t looking. He loved his family and taking care of them. Terry could make the most amazing meal out of random ingredients in the refrigerator.
He is survived by his wife: Penny Johnson; one son: Brik (BJ) Johnson of Excelsior Springs, MO; and one daughter: Vicki (Mike) Ryan of Lenexa, KS; six grandchildren: Brennan Johnson, TJ Johnson, Teagan Johnson, Winnie Ryan, Maggie Ryan, and Liam Ryan; siblings: Barry (Lillian) Johnson of Kansas City, MO, Greg (Gayle) Johnson of Excelsior Springs, MO, Dolores Miller of Gulfport, MS, Deb (Bill) Foster of Excelsior Springs, MO, Dixie Winstead of Chester, VA, sister-in laws Jeannie Johnson of Excelsior Springs, MO, and Margie Johnson-Dislevy of Orlando, FL; and many nieces and nephews, all of whom loved and admired him.
In addition to his parents, Terry was preceded in death by his brothers: Gary Johnson, and Brad Johnson; sister: Dexa Johnson; and infant son: Michael Alan Johnson.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made in Terry’s name to: The Alzheimer’s Association, 3846 W 75th St, # 4126, Prairie Village, KS, 66208 or to The i-ROK Foundation, 111 Highland Park Ave, Excelsior Springs, MO 64024.
