Robert Vance Collins, 68, passed away on his birthday at Liberty Hospital, surrounded by friends and family.
He was born in Frederick, VA, but called Texas “home”. He loved the Aspens in Colorado and had grown to love our adopted hometown of Kearney. During his lifetime, Papi worked in a wide variety of jobs. The boys always joked that he had done every job someone could think of. His passion, though, was science. I always teased that he missed his calling as a teacher- something he spent much of his last few years doing through homeschooling and co-op. He had a gift for sharing information in a way that made people understand. We always said that Papi would make a great cartoon character. He pretended to be a “grumpy old man”, but underneath he had a giant heart. He made everyone in his world feel special. He had always talked about wanting to live on a farm and build things, so I’m thankful that is how he spent his last years. He enjoyed making almost daily trips to “Maw-mart” with his boys. Everyone who knows him knows he was always doing or making something.
He is survived by two sisters- Sharon and Theresa, a brother- Reed, a son- Robert, and the Goodman family- Rick, Anna, Jacob, Joshua, Joseph, James, and John David. He was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Carrie.
Requiem aeternam dona eis, Domine. Et lux perpetua luceat eis. Fidelium animae, per misericordiam Dei, requiescant in pace. Amen
