Rashel Chang Raweewon, 68, of Liberty, passed away Thursday, June 15, 2017, in Kansas City, KS.
Memorial Service will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, June 25, 2017 at the Pleasant Valley Baptist Church Chapel.
Rashel was born March 17, 1949, in Bangkok, Thailand. He is the son of the late Pia Chang and the late Ka (Tiew) Seung. He married Methinee (May) Kusulapanyo on June 13, 1981 and one week later, they began their journey to the United States. They both became American citizens in 1999.
Growing up, Rashel was a dedicated student and helped his parents with their family business. When Rashel was in his 20s, he served as the general secretary of the Thailand Baptist Convention, often leading worship services and Sunday school.
Rashel loved his family and considered watching the birth of his children to be one of his proudest moments in life. He had a successful and fulfilling career as a healthcare consultant with Cerner. He was an active member of his community, assisting with two job clubs, and was a member of the regional council of the Liberty Hospital. He also served as a pastor at Bales Baptist Church for the Laotian congregation.
He loved Spring and nature. His hobbies included visiting the lake near his home, writing calligraphy, and drawing comics. He loved taking pictures. No matter where he went, Rashel always carried his camera and his journal with him. He was an avid reader and writer, a skilled artist, and a musician. He particularly enjoyed the music of Elvis Presley and Johnny Cash. He had a strong love for God, and Christ was the center of his life.
He is survived by his wife, May Raweewon, his children, Shane and Tara, and his daughter-in-law, Ashley.
