Nina Fern Buhlig, 74, of Kearney, Missouri passed away on April 22, 2013, at Menorah Medical Center in Overland Park, Kansas. The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm, Friday, April 26, 2013, at Hidden Valley Funeral Home. The Funeral service will take place at Christ’s Fellowship Church in Kearney at 11 AM, Saturday, April 27, 2013. Burial will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Kearney. Memorial contributions may be made to the church.

Fern was born on November 8, 1938 in Warrensburg, Missouri, the only daughter of Arch and May (Anderson) Evans. She was a 1956 graduate of Warrensburg High School. On June 23, 1957, she was united in marriage to Robert Dale Buhlig.

Fern worked for Hallmark Cards as a Clerk in Receiving until her retirement in 1995; she then went on to work for Century 21 in Liberty as a Real Estate Agent. From 1990 until 2007, she and Bob owned and operated Hospitality House Restaurant and then Hospitality Inn Bed and Breakfast in Kearney, Missouri.  For many years, she was involved in Christ’s Fellowship Church and was one of the few Charter Members remaining.  She leaves a legacy of love for Christ that will continue to bless her family for generations.

Fern enjoyed playing cards, dominoes, and board games with her friends and family, cooking, working on puzzle books, and cheering for the Royals. Branson was a favorite getaway for her and Bob to enjoy with friends and family. Fern loved people and enjoyed every moment spent with family. Having everyone over for dinner was always a highlight and she especially cherished the time with her grandchildren. She had a gift for making each individual she interacted with feel special–whether it was her husband, her sons, her daughters in law, or her grandchildren. She had a unique way of relating to each member of her family leaving all feeling cherished and valued.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Charles Evans.

Fern leaves behind her husband of 55 years, Bob Buhlig of the home; sons, Michael Buhlig of Kansas City, MO, Mark Buhlig & wife, Marilyn of Liberty, MO, and Mitchell Buhlig & wife, Dori of Kearney, MO; brother, Bill Evans & wife, Jan of Warrensburg, MO; grandchildren, Caleb, Seth, Joseph and Samuel Buhlig, Brienne Walker & husband, Jeffrey, Brandon, Brileigh and Bryar Buhlig; two great grandchildren, Kaden and Irelyn Walker; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members.
