Mary Helen Porter, 88, of Kearney, Missouri, passed away Wednesday afternoon, March 12, 2014, at Gower Convalescent Center in Gower, Missouri. She was born April 24, 1925, in Highland, Kansas, the daughter of the late George and Beulah Dutton Gilmore. She was married to her husband, Mack Porter, for sixty-two years. Mary Helen was a graduate of Highland Community College. She was also a member of PEO and Order of the Eastern Star.
Mary Helen is survived by her husband, Mack Porter, of the home, three children, Craig and wife Katee Porter of Kansas City, Missouri, Kent and wife Linda Porter of Kearney, Missouri, and Kristy and husband Ed Charland, of Lee’s Summit, Missouri. One sister, Georgia Lee Hendren, one brother, Larry Gilmore; six grandchildren, Natalie Porter, Evan Charland, Alex Porter, Claire Charland, MacKenzie Porter, and Chase Porter; one great- grandson, Connor Porter; other relatives, and many friends. In addition to her parents, Mary Helen was preceded in death by one sister, Loretta Flett.
Visitation will be held at Hidden Valley Funeral Home in Kearney, Missouri, where friends may call from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday, March 20, 2014. Funeral services for Mary Helen will be conducted at Hidden Valley Funeral Home, Friday, March 21, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Smithville Memorial Cemetery, Smithville, Missouri. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mary Helen Gilmore Porter Foundation at Highland Community College, Highland, Kansas.
