Funeral Home Hidden Valley Funeral Home of Excelsior Springs
Marlene Fern (Vernon) Todd, of Excelsior Springs, MO, was called home to be with the Lord on March 7, 2016, surrounded by her loving family. The first child of the home, Marlene was born in Hiawatha, Kansas, on June 26, 1934 to Raymond and Fern Vernon. She would soon be joined by three additional siblings, Gary, Sandra and Dean.
Growing up with very humble beginnings, Marlene learned to appreciate the simple things in life, above all, the love of family. On August 30, 1973, Marlene married the love of her life, John W. Todd, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. They raised three beautiful children together; Cindy, Brian and Tammy. Marlene cherished her family. She was not merely their mother, sibling, or John’s wife, she was their caregiver, chef, mediator, motivator, friend, teacher, party planner, and all around inspiration. Outside of her family, she enjoyed traveling, cooking, sewing, making her own crafts, gardening, and watching her beloved Kansas City Royals.
Marlene was survived by her loving husband, John Todd, of the home; Son In Law and Daughter, Michael and Cindy Reding of Liberty, MO; Son and Daughter In Law, Brian and Vickie Lewis of Liberty, MO; Daughter, Tammy Todd Wetzel of Excelsior Springs, MO; Brother and Sister In Law, Gary and Phyllis Vernon of Norfolk, VA; Sisters, Sandra Joann Newman and Phyllis Cole of Liberty, MO; Brother and Sister In Law, Dean and Norma Thompson of Dalton, GA; Grandchildren, Lisa and David Cunningham, Jennifer Lewis, Johnathan Todd, Chase Kinnaman, Brayden Wetzel and Garrett Wetzel; Great Grandchildren, Bryson and Leah Cunningham
There will be a private celebration of life. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests donations made in memory of Marlene Todd to the American Cancer Society or American Heart Association.
