Joe C. Spear, Sr., 79, of Excelsior Springs, MO, passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home, on Friday, September 9, 2016. Joe was born March 4, 1937, to Nancy R. Mace and Henry Geary Spear in Liberty, MO. Joe married the love of his life, Anna Clancy, May 22, 1959. He proudly served in the US Navy from 1957-1963, aboard the USS Toledo, USS Everett F. Larson, and the USS Preston. He worked at the Excelsior Springs Water Dept. and Missouri Power and Light Co., retiring from Ameren Union Electric Co. in March 1992. Joe was a member of Crescent Lake Christian Center, where he served first as a deacon and later as elder, until November 2000. Joe loved and enjoyed his family and was especially proud of his three sons. He loved spending time with his grandkids and great-grandkids, who were the joy of his life. Joe was a humble man who had a deep love for his wife, his family and his Savior, Jesus Christ. He was a man of few words who enjoyed the outdoors. Joe will be remembered for his godly wisdom as well as his calm and quiet demeanor, which brought peace and comfort to those around him. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Maxine Hughy and three brothers Jess Henry, Raymond Spear and Dewey Way. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Anna, of over 57 years. Three loyal sons, Joe Jr. and wife Sandy; Gary and wife Debbie; Stephen and wife, Shelley all of Excelsior Springs, MO. Seven grandchildren, Noah, Janae, Joe III, Ashley, Brianna, Tyler and Lauren, and six great-grandchildren, Kaden & Brody, Azia, Aubree, Meredith & Samuel. Five sisters, Elizabeth Verell, Jemez Pueblo, New Mexico; Elva Schneider, Liberty, MO., Frances Sims, Salina, Ks.; Carol Wharton, Clinton, MO; Martishua Lager, Gladstone, MO; two brothers, David Way, Clinton, MO, and Geary Spear, San Diego, CA, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at Crescent Lake Christian Center, 1250 St. Louis Ave., Excelsior Springs, MO, 11am, Wednesday, September 14, 2016. Visitation will take place 6-8pm, Tuesday, September 13, 2016, at Hidden Valley Funeral Home, Wood Heights, MO, 816-637-3000. Burial in Hillcrest Cemetery, Excelsior Springs, MO. In lieu of flowers and in light of the excellent care Joe received by Hospice Nurse, Kathy Kunze, the family encourages donations be made to the Excelsior Springs Hospice, Excelsior Springs, MO.
