Jerry Lee Irwin Brummett, 78, of Kearney, Missouri passed away November 12, 2018.
Visitation will be 11:00a-12:00p, Friday, November 23, 2018 at Hidden Valley Funeral Homes, Kearney, MO. A Celebration of Life will follow at 12:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to one of her favorite organizations, Turney Mercy Sewing Circle. This group creates quilts and bears to provide comfort to the young patients of Children’s Mercy Hospital.
Jerry Lee was born in Manhattan, Kansas on December 22, 1939, to the late Marion and Jerry Irwin. She was the eldest of four girls and had a wonderful childhood on the family farm with her sisters, Donna, Joalyn and Janet.
She met her future husband, Herman, while in high school and they married in 1958. They enjoyed 54 years of marriage before Herman passed away in 2013. They raised five children: Christopher, Carla and Carolyn Brummett and Tammy and Bill Munson.
Jerry Lee had a passion for learning. She obtained Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Education from UMKC. She taught third and fifth grade at Gracemor Elementary in the North Kansas City School District for 19 years.
She was artistic and loved quilting. She belonged to four sewing and quilting groups. She had a strong faith and was a member of Kearney United Methodist Church. Celebrating 4th of July, Christmas and spending time at the lake house with her family brought her great joy.
In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by her son, Christopher Brummett, and youngest sister, Janet Chapman. She is survived by her daughters, Carla Bishop (Greg), Carolyn McLees (Rob), daughter-in-law, Lisa Brummett, Tammy Munson, Bill Munson; grandchildren, Brant and Brendan, Courtney and Trey, Jake and Rachel.
