Service will be at 10am on Sunday, January 31, 2016 at Hidden Valley Funeral Home in Kearney, MO. Burial will be at 2pm, January 31, 2016 at Memory Gardens Cemetery, Lamar, MO.

Jean Elaine Smith, 79, of Liberty, MO passed away January 27, 2016 at Liberty Hospital.

Funeral Service will be 10:00 a.m. Sunday, January 31, 2016 at Hidden Valley Funeral Home; Kearney, MO. Burial will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday at Memory Gardens Cemetery, Lamar, MO.

In lieu of flowers donations can be sent to Ozark Chapel United Methodist Church P.O. Box 1096, Laurie, MO 65038 or any charity that the Lord leads you to choose.

Jean was born August 5, 1936, to Horace Benton Rose (of MO) & Della Minerva (Machesney of IL) on a farm in Henry County, MO. Jean grew up in Lamar and finished high school at the age of 16. She went to Ozark Bible College in Joplin for 1 semester. Got home sick and moved back home to work in local café and met a traveling salesman from Ash Grove, MO, Robert Lee Stanton. They married in 1955 and moved to Kansas City and had four children. They divorced and Jean married Roy Smith and they had Rodney. They then moved to Sunrise Beach and she worked at Ozark Bar-B-Que and Sharon’s Laurie Donut Shop for many years. In October 2013 she moved to Landmark Towers in Liberty, MO where she enjoyed her new found friends, fellowship, and Bingo! She loved music and was active all her life in the church choir. She loved Elvis Presley and John Wayne, but most of all she loved Jesus! Because of her love of Jesus she survived a life of many losses and leaves a legacy of love.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents: Horace Benton Rose & Della Minerva Rose, brothers: Quenton Eugene Rose, Horace Rose, Jr., Carl Rose; sister: Kathryn Kentner; son: Randall Benton Stanton; 1st husband & love of her life Robert Lee Stanton, 2nd husband Roy Smith father to her cherished youngest son Rodney Leroy Smith.

Jean is survived by her brother: Fred Garth Rose & wife Mickey; daughters: Vickie Jean Stanton, Cynthia Lee Cantu & husband Larry Cantu; sons: Mark Allen Stanton & precious wife Mary Stanton, Loretta Stanton-precious wife of Randall Benton Stanton, Rodney Smith & wife Shelby; stepsons: Ron Smith & wife Kathy, Richard Smith & wife Sandy: grandchildren: Alana (Chett) Hutzler, Julia (Garrett) Allbright, Kirstie and Kyle Smith, John Luke and James Stanton, Nicole Stanton & Fiancé Josh Wilson, Ash (Chad) Carrel; great-grandchildren: Weston Hoffart, Haize Hutzler, Adelyn Carrel, Colin Carrel; step grandchildren: Shauna and Ashley Smith, Zara Porter, Teresa-Shelley and Sabrina Wise, Harrison Smith, Mackenzie Smith; and many precious neighbors, friends, fellow workers, parishioner’s and staff from Landmark Towers.
