James Douglas Hammontree, 50, of Kansas City, Missouri passed away to his studio in Heaven, Wednesday, February 27, 2013, at Liberty Hospital. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Friday, March 8, 2013, at Hidden Valley Funeral Home in Kearney.
James was born on October 26, 1962, in Cameron, Missouri, the son of John D. and Rose M. (Brooks) Hammontree. He graduated from Winnetonka High School in 1981 and went on to work in various jobs, such as the BNSF Railroad, moving big equipment for Harvey Griffitt, and lastly as a driver for Gann Asphalt.
James was a musician at heart and enjoyed making music as much as he did listening to it. In 1993, he founded Local Stranger Songwriting and was a co-founder of Local Stranger Band. He enjoyed playing acoustic guitar and piano as well as running the sound board and mixing the music. In his short 50 years, James had a very eventful life that led to some fun stories-and through it all, he had his family at his side. He was preceded in death by a sister, Shelly Hammontree.
James leaves behind his bride, Julie Hammontree of the home; adopted daughter, Patreice Coccia of the home; father, John D. Hammontree of Davenport, IA; mother, Rose M. Lopez & husband, Richard of Tonganoxie, KS; sister, Lisa Barnhart & husband, Dale of Kansas City, MO; brother, John “Kendall” Hammontree& wife, Joan of Pleasant Valley, MO as well as many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and extended family members. We love you James, and will miss you.
