George Wesley Townsend was born August 19, 1930 in Kansas City, Missouri. He attended Liberty High School and later earned a degree in engineering from Finlay School of Engineering. He served in the United States Navy from 1948 – 1952 on the USS Palau. He worked at Clay County Savings and Loan and was self-employed as a builder and general contractor. He owned and operated George Townsend Stamps for Collectors and greatly enjoyed his work with stamps. George was an Eagle Scout and a warrior (hard way) of the Tribe of Mic-O-Say.
George loved music, hiking, rock hounding, snow skiing, traveling and exploring with his wife, though he was always anxious to get back to his favorite hobby and pass time working with stamps. He enjoyed eating out at buffets, dinner theaters and places with live music, and he was extremely partial to ice cream and desserts.
George will be forever in our hearts and on our minds. He is survived by his loving wife and caretaker of 38 years, Judy Townsend, his son, George Norman Townsend, his daughter, Peggy Hauser, his stepsons Travis Scott and Lee Wheeler, and his stepdaughter, Chris Jordan, as well as numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his son Jim Townsend and by his parents.
