Franny was born October 22, 1933 in Ray County, Missouri. He is the son of the late Ruben E and the late Nora (Mayabb) Shelton. He married Thelma Hazel Peterson on April 5, 1953 in Wellington, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma Hazel (Peterson) Shelton on July 20, 2010.

Franny was a proud life-long resident of Ray County, Missouri. He spent his childhood on his family farm, doing what needed to be done alongside his brother Ivan. Franny found the love of his life, Thelma Hazel, in his late teens and became happily married. Not long after they were married, the Korean War started and he was drafted to fight overseas in the United States Army. He served his country proudly. Franny and Thelma loved to travel the country with each other, driving all around the United States, seeing as much as they could see. They had no biological children of their own, but parented many, and many would consider them parents. Some of Franny’s favorite activities included, in no particular order, drinking coffee, watching cows, and quail hunting. He loved, more than all, spending time with his loved ones and will be truly missed.

He is survived by one sister: Sandra Gray; two nephews: James Peterson and wife Jackie, and Kenneth Peterson and wife Lisa; one great-niece: Cheyenne Peterson; and four great-nephews: Austin Peterson, Dakota Peterson, Ryan Peterson and A.J. Peterson.

In addition to his parents and wife, Franny was preceded in death by his brother, Ivan Shelton.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Salem Christian Union Church, 15701 Salem Rd, Excelsior Springs, MO 64024.
