Edward Lee Monnig, 79, of Kearney, MO, passed away from natural causes on December 20th, 2018, surrounded by his family at KU Medical Center. Ed was born February 10th, 1939, in Salisbury, MO. He was the son of Arnold and Irene Brandt Monnig, the youngest of 12 brothers and sisters. He proudly served in the US Air Force and worked for the Ford Motor Company before moving to rural Fremont, MO, to raise cattle. He moved back to Kearney to be closer to his daughters and grandkids. Ed loved country music, spending time with family, working on the farm, rooting for the Kansas City Chiefs, reading all the western novels at the local library, and could always be found with a cup of coffee in his hand. He bragged about being married for 61 years to the love of his life, Evelyn Monnig. They were inseparable. Ed was known for his sense of humor and loved teasing his grandchildren. He was compassionate, had a strong, thoughtful, and quiet grace about him, and had a sincere respect for all living creatures.
He is survived by his wife Evelyn; three daughters, Debra Monnig (Terry Proudfit), of Kansas City, MO, Patricia Huffaker (Bud) of Kearney, MO, and Sandra Bond (Calvin), of Mission, KS; six grandchildren, Amber Jennings (Toby), Joe (Jenny), Jake and Katie Huffaker, Dillon and Darcy Bond; and two great-grandchildren, Penny and Wade Huffaker.
