Dixie L Burgess, 85, of Kearney, passed away Wednesday, November 20, 2019, in Excelsior Springs, MO.

Visitation will be Tuesday, November 26, 2019, from 10am-11:30am at Hidden Valley Funeral Homes, 925 MO-92, Kearney, MO. Graveside service 2:30pm at Wilmington Cemetery, Harveyville, KS.

Dixie was born August 20, 1934, in Harveyville, KS. She is the daughter of the late Gilbert and the late Doris (Nelson) Groves.

She was employed by Southwestern Bell as a Secretary. Dixie loved watching her beloved hummingbirds and tending to their needs. She was a fantastic piano and accordion player. She was an exquisite performer anytime she played with or without music. Anyone who heard her play wanted her to play again. One of her favorite songs to play was “Just Because” by the Shelton Brothers. She enjoyed dancing, shopping. She was a big fan of Kansas City Royals and Kansas Jayhawks. She loved being comfortable in her home/chair.

She is survived by one daughter: Brenda Whitlock of Independence, MO, and two sons: Michael Burgess of Kansas City, MO and Bryan Burgess of Shawnee Mission, KS, one brother: Darrell, she also has eight grandchildren: Kellen, Morgan, Kera, Savanna, Nathan Meaghan, Kylie, Dylan, three great-grandchildren; Lincoln, Coen, and Oliver.

Dixie was preceded in death by her Husband of 30 years Lee Barnes, brothers; Emory Groves, Quentin Groves, sister; Maxine Groves-Fisher, and her Great Grandson, Nolan.
