Cheryl Rae (Chaney) Jones was born in Kansas City on October 15, 1946, to Arch Leonard and Doris Imogene (Tittsworth) Chaney. They resided together in Kearney, MO.

She was the oldest of four children; Gwynn, Michael and Mark would come over the next several years. She spent most of her childhood in Hannibal, MO. She often spoke of happy times there with her family, visiting her Grandma’s house nearby, and spending parts of summers with her cousins.

Her family relocated to the Kansas City area. She worked part time at a soda fountain in a drug store while in high school across the street from Hickman Mills Barber Shop. One of her regular customers was a young barber named Joe. They became acquainted and dated. She graduated in 1964. In the fall, she and Joe were married. They had two children: Kellie in 1966 and Kevin in 1968. In their early married life, they lived in Independence, MO. Later, they moved to Springfield, MO. Cheryl worked at Midwest Dairy Farmers and Frisco Railroad while living there.

Joe and Cheryl moved to Forsyth, MO, in 1973 to open a small Sears catalog store. Later, Cheryl worked for Boatmen’s Bank of Taney County for several years before working as administrative assistant to three managers at White Water theme park in Branson, MO.

Over the next several years, she lived in Nixa and Springfield, MO, working at various places including a bank and daycare. She pursued and completed her business degree at Southwest Missouri State University. She relocated to Lee’s Summit in 2000 and Kearney, MO in 2005 and spent several years working at Blue Cross Blue Shield and International Baking Company as an auditor.

She loved Royals baseball, needlepoint, reading, going to her grandchildren’s school activities and sporting events, listening to Zachary and Halie sing for Fine Arts, watching Harrison play tee ball, lunches at tea rooms, doing laundry, family and family get togethers. She was a Christian and enjoyed going to services with her kids and grandkids.

She became ill in 2010 and fought a long and courageous battle with the support of excellent doctors, physical therapists and her family. She passed away peacefully surrounded and comforted by her family on Thursday, June 11, 2015 at 12:35 pm at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO.
